One more watercolor painting for today, perhaps one of my favorites.
Unlike the previous ones, I decided to try more free expressionistic approach this time. If my memory serves me well, I read in Janson’s History of Art that the old masters used this technique often as a sketch for a painting. In those days when there were no photos, watercolor was used to capture the moment and to make references for the use of color, and the relationship of light and shadow.
Although this is not a sketch I decided for such a free approach and I must say that I am very pleased with the final outcome.
By the way, this is an old bridge in my town, built next to the small medieval fortress. One of the most beautiful places in town.
